Georgia Virtual Learning Content Added to OER Collection in NCLOR


Today, over 1100 individual learning modules were added to the open educational resources collection within the NCLOR. This series has been made available from the Georgia Department of Education. The Georgia Virtual Learning (GVL) is a large online repository of learning content used for online instruction. The virtual courses included in this series serve a wide array of student learning styles through interactive and engaging learning content that’s designed for best practice and flexibility. The resources included in this series are the “shared” or the open educational resources created for the Georgia Virtual Learning instruction. There are 94 complete courses included in this collection, in subjects such as: Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education, Fine Arts, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences, and World Languages.

The courses were created by Georgia Department of Education faculty. They are organized in modular format (SoftChalk) with audio/video interactive features and built in navigation. Specific attention was paid regarding ADA compliance with the inclusion of closed caption/audio features as well as universal design.

The courses included in this series are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 Unported LicenseCreative Commons License

CK-12 Resource Series Updated in NCLOR


CK 12 logoDue to a resource reorganization at CK-12, the NCLOR needed to re-catalog all the resources available from the CK-12 foundation. The FlexBooks® currently available (72), have now been downloaded to the NCLOR directly in PDF and ePub formats. To view the files you will need a pdf reader or an iOS device, Android device or ePub reader to view the ePub files. All older versions of the resources in the CK-12 series have been archived.

FlexBook® textbooks are CK-12’s open source digital textbooks.

The CK-12 Foundation is a non-profit organization with a mission to reduce the cost of textbook materials for the K-12 market both in the U.S. and worldwide. Using an open-content, web-based collaborative model termed the FlexBook®, CK-12 intends to pioneer the generation and distribution of high-quality educational content that will serve both as core text as well as provide an adaptive environment for learning.

NCDPI adds IowaLearns math content to NCLOR


iowa-de-logoThe North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in cooperation with the Iowa Department of Education has made 250+ math related resources available in the NCLOR. IowaLearns.org is a digital repository of teaching and learning resources. The repository provides an environment for educators to search for, use and share quality educational resources. The majority of the Iowa content has been aligned to the North Carolina Essential Standards but is open to everyone to use.

NROC webinar avaliable


NROC ProjectNROC hosted an informational webinar on October 29th. This webinar reviews the vast collections available from the NROC Project through the NCLOR. Beth Pickett, NROC Project HippoCampus Product Manager, provides a whirlwind tour of some of the 3,000 + objects across subjects. Jonathon Sweetin, NCLOR Systems Administrator, demonstrates how to easily include objects from NCLOR into your Blackboard or Moodle courses.

The NROC Project is a community-guided, non-profit project focused on new models of digital content development, distribution, and use.

Eight New NROC Collections Added to the NCLOR

The content available in the NCLOR from NROC has been updated with eight new collections. The eight new collections are: The Concord Consortium Collection, NMSU Learning Games Lab Collection, Mt. San Jacinto College Collection, Chattanooga State Technical College Collection, BioInteractive Collection, APES in a Box Collection, Virginia Historical Society Collection, and NASA eClips Collection. The NROC Project provides core academic rich multimedia content–videos, animations, and simulations–on general education subjects to middle-school, high-school teachers, college professors and their students. Over 490 new resources have been added to the NROC collection. These resources join the other 2,800+ items already available for NCCCS faculty use.


 

The Concord Consortium Logo The Concord Consortium is a collection of Revolutionary Digital Learning items for Science, Engineering, and Math. The Concord Consortium is a nonprofit educational research and development organization based in Concord, Massachusetts. The courses in the NCCCS combined course library that could be support by this content include: CHM081, CHM082, PHY080, BIO090, MAT121, PHY101, EHS115.  Number of items added = 41  Subjects included = Biology, Algebra, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental science

NMSU Learning Games Lab Logo New Mexico State University Learning Games Lab collection offers Math Snacks: Animations and Games for Middle School. Math Snacks are short animations and mini-games designed to present mathematics in a very different way. APES in a BOX Logo APES in a BOX collection contain AP Environmental Science Review courses. APES in a Box is an all-inclusive study guide for the AP Environmental Science exam. Four New Resource Series from NROC have been added to NCLOR


NROC LogoThe NROC collection in the NCLOR has been updated with four new series. The four new series are: Phoenix College, WhyU, National Geographic Creative Motion, and Moments in American History.  NROC provides core academic rich multimedia content–videos, animations, and simulations–on general education subjects to middle-school, high-school teachers, college professors and their students. Close to 1700 items have been added to this collection.

Phoenix College Logo  The Phoenix college collection includes items from  Mathispower4u.com, which is a collection of mini-lessons and example videos with no ads.  The courses that can be supported in the NCCCS combined course library include: DMA065, MAT075, MAT140, MAT271, MAT272, EHS115, ENV110, MAT273, MAT285, MAT280, MAT162, MA040.  1,550 items have been added to the collection from Phoenix college.

 Subjects covered in the Phoenix College Collection are: Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, and SAT Math Practice

WHYU LogoWhy U is funded by the Goldman Charitable Foundation in partnership with the University of Central Florida. The goal of these lectures is to explore fundamental concepts more precisely and in greater depth than is currently possible in most high-school and college-level algebra courses.  The courses that can be supported in the NCCCS combined course library include: MAT285, MAT095, MAT152, DMA050, DMA060, DMA020, DMA010, DMA040,DMA065.

57 Items have been added to the collection from Why U.

Subjects covered in the Why U Collection are: Pre-Algebra Foundational Concepts, Algebra Foundational Concepts, and Infinite Series.

National Geographic Collection LogoThe National Geographic Creative Motion collection spans a 60-year history and embodies the global vision, spirit of adventure and credibility for which National Geographic is recognized worldwide. National Geographic is a Creative Motion collection database comprised of video clips as well as a unique collection of short-form videos available for use in educational markets. The courses that can be supported in the NCCCS combined course library include: HIS114, HIS131, EHS115, ENV110, MAT162. 49 items from this collection have been added to the NCLOR.

Subjects covered in the National Geographic Creative Collection are: Environmental Science, U.S. History, and World History.
Moments in American History LogoThe Moments in American History series was created when the Thorp School District and Central Washington University entered a collaborative partnership with 18 Central Washington school districts, seven universities, four museums, four libraries and a historical society for the purpose of enlisting U. S. History content and expertise. The courses that can be supported in the NCCCS combined course library include: HIS131,HIS132.  37 items from this collection were added.
The subject covered in Moments in American History Collection is U.S. History.

SBCTC Open Course Library Phase II Courses added to NCLOR

The Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) has updated the Open Course Library, which is a collection of expertly developed educational materials for 81 of the state’s highest-enrolled college courses. The materials are freely available online under an open license for use by the state’s 34 public community and technical colleges, four-year colleges and universities, and anyone else worldwide. The subjects included in this update  are: Business, Communications, English, Fine Arts, Humanities, Mathematics,  and Science.

This resource series contains the IMS Common Cartridge files of the Open Course Library catalog. These files are compatible with many learning management systems (LMS) and contain all of the course content including syllabi, course activities, readings, and assessments. Some courses have content available via Google Docs which enables users to download the course resources directly to their Google account.

NROC Algebra I (2011) and Developmental Math Courses Updated

NROC Algebra I (2011) and Developmental Math courses have been updated in the NCLOR. The Developmental Math course was updated with 4 new units: Rational Expressions, Radical Expressions and Quadratic Equations, Functions, and Exponential and Logarithmic Functions. The course content is now available for browsing by complete unit (1-18) or by topic. This will help faculty find specific resources quickly and efficiently. Some link fixes to current resources and additional resource metadata were also included in this update.

NROC’s Developmental Math Program is designed to be used with students striving to meet college entrance requirements. The program has pre- and post-assessment features that help direct students to the content needed to close their proficiency gaps, and offers video, audio, interactive simulations, puzzles, and other instructional approaches that engage a variety of learning styles and attitudes. The NROC courses utilize various combinations of video, animation, still graphics, simulations, text and audio.

The NROC courses utilize various combinations of video, animation, still graphics, simulations, text and audio.  Each course includes structured learning guides. This series is available to NCCCS Faculty Only.

NROC’s Developmental Math Program is designed to be used with students striving to meet college entrance requirements. The program has pre- and post-assessment features that help direct students to the content needed to close their proficiency gaps, and offers video, audio, interactive simulations, puzzles, and other instructional approaches that engage a variety of learning styles and attitudes.

Also included are instructor guides and etextbooks for the courses. Many of the developmental math resources have been tagged to the appropriate DMA 010-080 student learning outcomes.

SBCTC Open Course Library Courses added to NCLOR

The materials cost $30 or less per student and are freely available online under an open license for use by the state’s 34 public community and technical colleges, four-year colleges and universities, and anyone else worldwide. The subjects included in this resource series are: Business, Communications, English, Fine Arts, Humanities, Mathematics,  and Science.

This resource series contains the IMS Common Cartridge files of the Open Course Library catalog. These files are compatible with many learning management systems (LMS) and contain all of the course content including syllabi, course activities, readings, and assessments.
