More UNC-TV & PBS LearningMedia resources added to NCLOR


pbs_lm_logoThis week, the  UNC-TV PBS LearningMedia resources were updated in the NCLOR. Over 2,300 resources were added to the 14,000 resources already available. These PBS Learning Media resources are made available to North Carolina Community College users through a partnership between UNC-TV and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). The collection is closed and can only be made available to current NCCCS users in North Carolina.

NCCCS users will have access to over 16,200 media-rich resources especially designed for teachers and students including self-guided lessons, lesson plans, videos, interactives, and hundreds of images. Some of the content added in this update include video clips from series like; NOVA, FRONTLINE, American Experience, PBS NewsHour, and Ken Burns: Jackie Robinson, just to name a few.

The subjects included in this collection are: Agricultural and Natural Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Business, Career and Technical Education, Computer Science, Education, Engineering, Health Medical Sciences, Information Sciences, Language Arts, Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Social and Behavioral Sciences.

This collection is only available to the NCCCS faculty. NC K-12 users have their own PBS collection available.

Over 6,000 resources were included in the first set with another 10,000 resources available today. These PBS Learning Media resources are made available to North Carolina Community College users through a partnership between UNC-TV and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). The collection is closed and can only be made available to current NCCCS users in North Carolina.

Over 6,000 resources were included in the first set with another 12,000 resources soon to be made available. These PBS Learning Media resources are made available to North Carolina Community College users through a partnership between UNC-TV and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). The collection is closed and can only be made available to current NCCCS users in North Carolina.

NCCCS users will have access to over 18,000 media-rich resources especially designed for teachers and students including self-guided lessons, lesson plans, videos, interactives,hundreds of images from the Bridgeman Art Library, over 700 Spanish language videos, science resources developed by UNC –TV, and popular PBS series such as NOVA, FRONTLINE, American Experience, and more.

ReadWriteThink Resource Series Updated


Read Write Think Logo Today, five new interactive resources from ReadWriteThink are now available for use. This K-12 series includes student interactive resources that focus on all aspects of literacy including literature, vocabulary, spelling, writing, and speech. All resources in this series have been reviewed and approved by the ReadWriteThink Advisory Board in partnership with the International Reading Association,the National Council of Teachers of English and the Verizon Foundation.

The new interactive resources are the Cube Creator, Resume Generator, K-W-L Creator, Line Break Explorer, and Puzzle Me Words. Using these resources you can engage your students in online literacy learning with these interactive tools that help them accomplish a variety of goals—from organizing their thoughts to learning about language—all while having fun.

ReadWriteThink Resource Series Added to NCLOR


ReadWriteThink’s mission is to provide educators, parents, and afterschool professionals with access to the highest quality practices in reading and language arts instruction by offering the very best in free materials. This K-12 series includes 54 student interactive resources that focuses on all aspects of literacy including literature, vocabulary, spelling, writing, and speech. All resources in this series have been reviewed and approved by the ReadWriteThink Advisory Board in partnership with the International Reading Association, the National Council of Teachers of English and the Verizon Foundation.

To access the ReadWriteThink series you can:

  2. navigate to the Browse by Resource Series area

Smithsonian Education Collection Updated


Smithsonian EducationThe NCLOR has updated it’s Smithsonian Education collection with 13 new items. The new items are the Smithsonian Lessons packages. The Smithsonian Lessons are complete packages of learning resources that are designed for specific grade levels. The packages may include many different resources ranging from student handouts, images, lesson plans and directions. All packages have been designed for use in grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12.

You can view the new items by accessing the NCLOR and by selecting: Browse by Resource Series>Smithsonian Education>Sort by Latest Additions.

The packages are in zip file format so item download is required.
