TED Ed series updated in NCLOR

Today, 331 videos from TED Ed were newly loaded or updated within the Open Educational Resources collection in the NCLOR. TED-Ed is TED’s (Technology, Entertainment and Design) youth and education initiative. Most of the resources made available are TED-Ed Originals and all are streamed from YouTube. These resources are short, award-winning animated videos about ideas that spark the curiosity of learners.

The videos are included in series such as: Animation Basic, Before and After Einstein, Getting Under Our Skin, Mysteries of Vernacular, Out of This World, Reading Between the Lines, and Superhero Science. The subject covered in the series are: Astronomy and astrophysics, Body systems and senses, Communication & Media, Literature, Physics, Simulation and game development, and Vocabulary.

NC Dept. of Cultural Resources Collection added to NCLOR

The North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources has added a large collection of its educational resources to the NCLOR. Topics included in this collection are: Agriculture, Anthropology, Architecture, Business, Civics, Cultural studies, Government, Journalism, Literature, Performing arts, Public health, Religion, Sociology, State history, Transportation, and Visual arts. There are over 2100+ resources available in this collection.

ReadWriteThink Resource Series Updated

Today, five new interactive resources from ReadWriteThink are now available for use. This K-12 series includes student interactive resources that focus on all aspects of literacy including literature, vocabulary, spelling, writing, and speech. All resources in this series have been reviewed and approved by the ReadWriteThink Advisory Board in partnership with the International Reading Association,the National Council of Teachers of English and the Verizon Foundation.

The new interactive resources are the Cube Creator, Resume Generator, K-W-L Creator, Line Break Explorer, and Puzzle Me Words. Using these resources you can engage your students in online literacy learning with these interactive tools that help them accomplish a variety of goals—from organizing their thoughts to learning about language—all while having fun.

To access the ReadWriteThink series you can:

Princeton University Video Lecture Series Added to NCLOR

Today, 40 new video lectures were added to the NCLOR from Princeton University. These resources are video captures of their famous public lecture series and include lectures  given by Tom Brokaw, Noam Chomsky, Former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, and Dr. Cornel West just to name a few. The subjects included in this series are broad and include: Political Science, Finance, Biology, Literature, Religion, and Physics.

Nobel Prize Educational Resources Added to NCLOR

Thirty-four new resources were added to the NCLOR from Nobel Prize Education at Nobelprize.org.  Of these, 29 were interactive learning games of various sorts and degrees of difficulties. Most of them also include additional readings about the subject. The subjects included in this resources series are Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature and Peace Prize related material.

ReadWriteThink Resource Series Added to NCLOR

ReadWriteThink’s mission is to provide educators, parents, and afterschool professionals with access to the highest quality practices in reading and language arts instruction by offering the very best in free materials. This K-12 series includes 54 student interactive resources that focuses on all aspects of literacy including literature, vocabulary, spelling, writing, and speech. All resources in this series have been reviewed and approved by the ReadWriteThink Advisory Board in partnership with the International Reading Association, the National Council of Teachers of English and the Verizon Foundation.
