UNC Cancer Network Lectures Added to NCLOR


UNC_Cancer_Network3 Today, twenty-two new video lectures were added to the open educational resource collection of the NCLOR. The UNC Cancer Network is provided by the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and the UNC at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. The mission of the UNC Cancer Network to provide scalable mechanisms for delivering oncology-related programs in education and research to healthcare practitioners, practitioners-in-training, and the public that will lead to reductions in morbidity and mortality from cancer and cancer-related illness in North Carolina.

With this mission in mind, the UNC Cancer Network has created various one hour lectures cancer health professionals speak about cancer related topics. The available lectures are categorized into two series: the RN and Allied Health lectures and the Community College Oncology lectures.

  • RN and Allied Health Lectures – These lectures focus on putting theory into practice for those responsible for the direct care of cancer patients (nurses, advanced practice nurses, radiology and radiation oncology technicians, social workers, dietitians, physical therapists, speech therapists, etc.). Special attention is given to equip nurses and allied health professionals with tools they need to be successful when caring for cancer patients.
  • Community Lunch and Learn Lectures – These lectures are focused on providing information to the general public about cancer, prevention, survivor-ship, and other health-related topics. The content is designed for cancer patients, survivors, friends, family, care givers and allied health professionals.

University of Nottingham’s – HELM Open health services collection added to NCLOR


periodic table logoToday, 180 new Health eLearning Media (HELM) Open resources were made available in the NCLOR’s Open Educational Resource Collection. This new series contains nursing and health services content. The HELM Open learning and teaching resources are high quality, interactive peer-reviewed resources developed by University experts over a 10 year period. HELM resources provide 15 minutes each of engaging multimedia bite-sized learning for you to use in your learning and teaching. This collection is a series of nursing and health services related items.

The some of the subjects covered in this series are; Nursing, Death and dying, Pharmacology, Physical and occupational therapy, Geriatric Nursing, Public health, Disease, and Physiology.

All HELM Open content available in this series is free to use and is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported LicenseCreative Commons License

Open SUNY Textbooks Added to NCLOR


Open_SUNY_logo_smToday, 6 new eTextbooks were added to the open educational resources collection of the NCLOR. Open SUNY Textbooks is an open access textbook publishing initiative established by State University of New York libraries and supported by SUNY Innovative Instruction Technology Grants. This pilot initiative publishes high-quality, cost-effective course resources by engaging faculty as authors and peer-reviewers, and libraries as publishing service and infrastructure.

The pilot launched in 2012, providing an editorial framework and service to authors, students and faculty, and establishing a community of practice among libraries.

Intelecom Resource Series Added to the Repository


Intelecom LogoThe INTELECOM Online Resources Network is a hosted and supported digital repository and subscription database of academic video clips – streamed on demand – for use in support of online, hybrid and face-to-face classes. The NCLOR staff has recently added 17 free videos representing a sample of the INTELECOM content collection. The subjects included in this series are: Adult Basic Education, Anatomy & Physiology, Biological Sciences, Business, Environmental Studies, Health, History, Mathematics, Nursing, Oceanography, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology.

Sumanas Inc. Learning Objects added as new Series


Sumanas Inc. LogoSumanas Inc is a education multimedia group that specializes in accurate high-impact interactive learning activities for higher education. Sumanas has made available 105 examples of the work they have completed for science textbooks and related fields. The subjects included in this series are: General Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, General Biotechnology, Biopsychology & Neuroscience, Environmental Science, Astronomy, and Chemistry. This series is a open educational resource and available to everyone.

New STEM related Resource Series from Wisc-Online added to the NCLOR


A new science, technology, engineering and math related resource series from Wisc-Online has been added to the NCLOR. Over 1000 learning objects  that include subjects ranging from Anatomy and Physiology to Technical Physics are available in this series. There is also a large collection of Health related learning objects as well. The learning objects in this series have been designed and developed by a team of instructional designers, editors, technicians, and student interns from the Wisconsin Technical College System.

To access this resource series:

  1. log into the NCLOR  < www.explorethelor.org > or through your institution’s learning management system (LMS)
  2. navigate to the Browse by Resource Series area
  3. click on the Wisc-Online series.
